Compare a subscript with a coefficient

A subscript usually applies to the number of molecules of a single element. A coefficient applies to the whole compound. For example, CO2, there are 2 oxygen molecules. But if it were 4NaCl, that's 4 molecules of salt. Each molecule containing only 1 of each element.
