One of the things is mass. Mass is conserved in any physical or chemical change. 

Physical changes- changes matter undergoes with out changing the make up of the substance
example ( melting of ice - changes form but it is still water)
Chemical changes- are changes that matter undergoes as it changes into something new
example (fire- the wood changes into something new) Another name for a chemical change is a chemical reaction.

Chemical Change: Change of color on a tree due to oil.
Physical Change:  Change of shape on a rock due to winds on rain filing it down.
