1. Using your data create a graph representing the melting and freezing. Use different colors to distinguish the two graphs. Graph the temperature vs time, putting temperature on the y axis and time on the x axis. 2. Check your graph to make sure it contains these things:

a) Labels for each axis

b) Units to match each label

c) Title

d) A key representing which color is for melting and which one is for freezing

3. Curves that graph this type of experimental data can be divided into distinct parts based on a change in slope. (See the sample curve in the Pre-Investigation reading.) For example, the curve shown in the example graph has three distinct parts.

a) Look closely at your graph of the warming curve from the first investigation. Your plot should be similar in shape to the example graph.

b) Label the slants on the graph as kinetic energy and the flat part of the graph potential energy.

4. Upload your phase diagram along with your detailed summary paragraph. In the summary paragraph address the following questions:

a) Give the ideas that you have at this time ( before you did the lab) about how energy relates to differences between solids, liquids and gases.

b) Does hot water or cold water have more energy? Give evidence for your answer.

c) What is the relationship between temperature and the movement of particles?

d) What is the relationship between temperature and energy?

e) Explain why water is a pure substance.

f) What was the temperature indicated by the intersection of the two curves on the graph?

g) For PDCB theoretical melting point/freezing point has been found 53.1*C while for paraffin wax's melting/freezing point is between 48 to 66*C . How close was your melting/freezing point to the theoretical value?

h) If you used PDCB you need to calculate the % error using the following formula: (show your work)
%error = theoretical (53.1) - actual(your temperature from the graph) / theoretical (53.1)
x 100

If the % of error is over 10%, analyze what could have caused such a large error.
