When acid rain falls on a lake, it makes the water in the lake acidic, which may be harmful to the aquatic plants and animals living in the lake by changing the pH of
their environment. Some lakes have a granite lake bed, while others have a limestone
lake bed. The primary ingredient in granite is silicon dioxide (SiO2), which does not
react with acids. The primary ingredient in limestone is calcium carbonate (CaCO3),
which will react with an acid, forming water carbon dioxide, and a calcium salt. Those
with a limestone lake bed are less affected by acid rain than those with a granite lake
bed. How would you explain this phenomenon?
