In a laboratory experiment, students use the setup shown in the image. They attach a string to the car and run it over a pulley, and at the other end of the string, there is a small hanger with a
weight. This weight is never changed in the
experiment. The students conduct 3 trials by
releasing the car and letting the force from
the weight pull the car across the table as
they measure velocity and acceleration. For
the second trial, weights are added to the
car before the experiment is run. For the
third trial, even more weight is added to the
car before the experiment is run. Using
Newton's Second Law, compare and contrast
force, mass, and acceleration of the toy car
for each of the three trials.
