A weak electrolyte exists predominantly as molecules in solution. Electrolytes are substances that have the ability to turn into ions when placed in water. The resulting aqueous solution then has the ability to conduct electricity due to the presence of ions. Strong electrolytes are those that readily breakdown into ions while weak electrolytes only partially dissolve into ions and thus mostly exists as molecules.
