Acomplex piping system was built three years ago and consists of 45 m of straight 60 mm diameter pipe with one 45° bend and two 90 bends with loss coefficients of 0.32 and 1.1 respectively. the pipe in the system is made of copper with a friction factor f of 0.002. now the copper piping has degraded and has a friction factor f of 0.003. it is proposed to install a filter and a valve into the system with equivalent lengths of 4.5 m and 13 m respectively. the system flows full and discharges water at 0.005 m3/s, freely to the atmosphere. calculate (as a result of the proposed installation of the filter and valve): a) the rise in total head loss, b) the increase in hydraulic power loss.
