In the world of tile flooring, the choice of tile adhesive is important for both tile application and wear, but also for tile removal. many adhesives are designed to soften at a certain temperature so that old tiles can be easily lifted off of the subfloor. a tile iron looks like a clothing iron and uses electricity to supply the heat to the tile to soften the adhesive. here, 4 mm thick tiles (initial temperature = 25 degree c, k = 0.15 w/m/k, and rho*c_p = 1.5 mj/m^3/k) need to be removed. the tile iron maintains a surface temperature of 150 degree c. if the adhesive between the tile and the subfloor is kept above 50 degree c for at least 2 minutes, the tile will lift off easily: however, if the adhesive ever gets hotter than 120 degree c, it deteriorates into a sticky mess. will this tile iron temperature allow the tile to be lifted off without deteriorating the adhesive? be sure to draw a picture showing the heat transfer, list all of your assumptions, and show your calculations.
