Flue gas is cooled from 1373.15 k to 400 k and the heat is used to generate saturated steam at 100 °c in a boiler. the flue gas heat capacity is given by: cp /r = 3.83 + 0.000551t. water enters the boiler at 100 °c and is vaporized at this temperature, 100 °c. (its latent heat of vaporization is 2256.9 kj/kg).

a. with reference to the surrounding temperature of 15 °c, what is the lost work in units of kj/mol flue gas?

b. with reference to the surrounding temperature of 15 °c, what is the maximum work in kj/mol flue gas that can be accomplished by the saturated steam at 100 °c if it condenses only and does not subcool?

c. what is the maximum work theoretically obtainable from the flue gas itself as it cools from 1373.15 k to 4000 k? (the surrounding temperature at 15 °c)

Aloaded platform of total mass 500 kg is supported by a dashpot and by a set of springs of effective stiffness 72 kn/m. it is observed that when the platform is depressed through a distance x = 12.5 cm below its equilibrium position and then released without any initial velocity; it reaches its equilibrium position in the shortest possible time without overshoot. find the position and velocity of the loaded platform 0.10 sec. after its release. if a further load of 400 kg is added to the platform, find, i) the frequency of damped vibrations, and i) the amplitude of vibration after 2 complete oscillations, given that the initial amplitude is 15 cm.
