You are part of a design team for a landfill liner system. It will cover a plan area 100 m by 100 m. It will be located at a maximum depth of 20 m below the top of a pile of municipal solid waste. The clay liner is to be made of a 3 meter-thick layer of compacted CH material. Leachate, a fluid generated from waste decomposition and rainfall infiltration, will accumulate on top of the clay liner over time. The design team plans for a maximum leachate level 2 meters above the top of the clay liner. The primary goals of solid waste regulations are to isolate the waste, and to prevent leachate from entering the groundwater below the landfill. The clay liner is the primary low permeability component of the system and is relied upon to be the main barrier. The leachate that seeps through the clay liner is collected by a leachate collection system located under the clay liner consisting of GW material with a perforated drain pipe in it that is large enough to not be filled with fluid at any time. Once the leachate enters the collection system it is routed to a treatment facility before being discharged into the environment.

Apump is used to circulate hot water in a home heating system. water enters the well-insulated pump operating at steady state at a rate of 0.42 gal/min. the inlet pressure and temperature are 14.7 lbf/in.2, and 180°f, respectively; at the exit the pressure is 60 lbf/in.2 the pump requires 1/15 hp of power input. water can be modeled as an incompressible substance with constant density of 60.58 lb/ft3 and constant specific heat of 1 btu/lb or. neglecting kinetic and potential energy effects, determine the temperature change, in °r, as the water flows through the pump.
