Natural gas having a molar analysis of 60% methane (CH4) and 40% ethane (C2H6) enters a compressor at 340 K, 6 bar and is compressed isothermally without internal irreversibilities to 20 bar. The compressor operates at steady state, and kinetic and potential energy effects are negligible.

Assume ideal gas behavior, compute for the compressor, the work and heat transfer, each in kJ per kmol of mixture flowing.

Amass of 1.5 kg of air at 120 kpa and 24Ā°c is contained in a gas-tight, frictionless piston-cylinder device. the air is now compressed to a final pressure of 720 kpa. during the process, heat is transferred from the air such that the temperature inside the cylinder remains constant. calculate the boundary work input during this process.
