A 5 ft thick layer of fill soil will be placed over a 20 ft thick Normally Consolidated CL layer to serve as a pad for construction of a new building. The fill is to be placed to an average dry unit weight of 113pcf with average water content of 15%. Thesaturated unit weight of the CL soil is 105.8 pcf. Determine the stress increase at Point A due to placement of the fill soil. Assume the lateral extent of the fill soil is much wider than the CL soil is thick.
