An extravascular pressure measurement system contains a catheter that is 1 m long and is 0.5 mm in diameter. It is filled with a saline solution at 20oC, which has a viscosity of 0.001 Pa*s. The isothermal compression of air (Ξ”V/Ξ”P) is 1 mL/cm. Assume that the volume modulus of elasticity of the sensor diaphragm is 0.49 x 1015 N/m5. Calculate the resonant frequency in Hz. Would you expect the catheter frequency response to be over-, under-, or critically-damped?– explain your reasoning.
