A heat exchanger takes compressed liquid water and converts it into steam with a temperature and pressure of 20 Mpa and 480 C; respectively. Steam is used to generate work Wa in a turbine with an isentropic efficiency of 78%. Steam that exits the turbine at 14 Mpa is used in a second identical turbine (same efficiency) after reheating it to 500 C (with the same heating exchanger). Once the steam exits the second turbine it passes through a condenser (working at a pressure of 6 Kpa) before being pumped (with an internal reversible and adiabatic pump) back to the heat exchanger.

Required:
a. Sketch a representative T-S diagram of the cycle.
b. Work done by the first turbine (KJ/Kg).
c. Work done by the second turbine (KJ/Kg).
d. Quality of steam leaving the second turbine.
e. Cycle thermal efficiency.

Afoot bridge is made as a simple deck, 4 m long, with a cross section 2 m (wide) and 20 cm thick, and made of wood. the deck is supported at the two ends. the maximum load allowable on the bridge is 10 tons, provided it is uniformly distributed on the deck. to sense this load, a strain gauge is placed at the center of the bridge and its resistance is monitored. if the sensor has a nominal resistance of 350 s2 and a gauge factor of 3.6, what is the reading of the strain gauge at maximum load? the modulus of elasticity for the wood used in the construction is 10 gpa.

Apreheater involves the use of condensing steam at 100Β°c on the inside of a bank of tubes to heat air that enters at 1 atm and 25Β°c. the air moves at 5 m/s in cross flow over the tubes. each tube is 1 m long and has an outside diameter of 10 mm. what is the minimum value of nl needed to achieve an outlet temperature of t 75 c? what is the corresponding pressure drop across the tube bank?
