Methane gas can be burned according to the following reactions:
CH4 + 2 O2 =CO2 + 2 H2O (1 )
2 CH4 + 3 O2 = 2 CO + 4 H2O (2)
If a reactor is fed with 100 mol/h of methane.
a) What would be the theoretical or stoichiometric O2 flow rate, if the combustion in the reactor is complete (only reaction 1 occurs)?
b) What would be the theoretical O2 flow rate if 70% of the methane reacts to form CO?
c) If 100% air is supplied in excess, and consequently only reaction 1 occurs, what will be the air flow into the reactor?
