An electric current is passed through a wire 1.5 mm in diameter with a length of 15 cm. The wire is submerged in water at atmospheric pressure, and the current is increased until the water boils. Under these conditions, the convection coefficient is 5000 W/m2-K, and the water temperature is 1000C. How much electric power must be supplied to the wire to maintain the wire surface at 1200C? Why might assuming negligible radiation be a reasonable assumption here?
