Design a rectangular column section to support P. = 696 k and M. = 465 k. ft with a total steel ratio Ps= 4% using the interaction diagrams. Place the longitudinal bars uniformly around two faces of the column and design the ties and their spacing. Use fs = 4 ksi, fy = 60 ksi and b = 18 in. Provide a sketch of your design and check code requirements. Sketch should include location of longitudinal bars and tie indicating their spacing. 4/4
time will be granted.
Additional Instructions:
1. Sketch your design: final cross-section, dimensions (i. e. d, h, heb, bw), bars, stirrups and ties arrangement (including number and type).
2. If you don't meet bmin criterion, you can bundle bars or rearrange in two layers.
3. Check strains, ACI reinforcement ratio limits.
4. If sketch is missing, you may lose half the points, even if your design is correct!
