Check the adequacy of a 4x8 stand-alone wood beam. The wood is Hem-Fir Select Structural. Total (dead plus live) deflection limit is L/180. Span length (Center line of support to center line of support) is 10 ft. Beam is fully braced. The beam is supported on 2x4 members (placed flat) at each end.
