An advanced turboprop engine, called an unducted fan (UDF), is one of the promising new propulsion technologiesbeing developed for future transport aircraft. Turbo prop engines, which have been in use for decades, combine the power and reliability of jet engines with the efficiency of propellers. They are a significant improvement over earlier piston-powered propeller engines. Their application has been limited to smaller commuter type aircraft, however, because they are not as fast or powerful as the fan-jet engines used on larger airliners. The UDF engine employs significant advancements in propeller technology, narrowing The performance gap between turboprops and fan-jets. New materials, blade shapes, and higher rotational speeds enable UDF-powered aircraft to fly almost as fast as fan jets and with greater fuel efficiency. The UDF is also significantly quieter than the conventional turboprop. During a test flight of a UDF-powered aircraft, the test pilot has set the engine power level at 40,000 Newtons, which causes the 20,000-kg aircraft to attain a cruise speed of 180 m/s (meters/second). The engine throttles are then set to a power of 60,000 Newtons, and the aircraft begins to accelerate. As the speed of the plane increases, the aerodynamic drag increases in proportion to the square of the airspeed. Eventually, the aircraft reaches a new cruise speed at which the thrust from the UDF engines is just offset by the drag. The equations used to estimate the velocity and acceleration of the aircraft from the time that the throttle is reset until the plane reaches its new cruise speed (at approximately 120 seconds) are the following: Velocity = 0.00001*time3 – 0.00488*time2 + 0.75795*time + 181.356 Acceleration = 3 - 0.000062*velocity2 Create a LabVIEW program to plot the velocity and acceleration of the aircraft. The ending time of the plotting interval should not be less than 120 seconds. The values of the acceleration and the velocity should also be recorded in a text file (Hint: File I/O). Finally, the program should also display the acceleration and the velocity of the aircraft just as it is displayed in cars using for example a meter: Provide a simple explanation of how you designed your program and describe the difficulties you faced in solving this problem. Compare the process of using MATLAB to solve this problem to using LabVIEW. For all the problems, submit a hard copy that includes figures of the designed VIs in class on the due date. In addition, submit the actual VIs that you have created on BlackBoard. To insert a figure of a VI in your report, proceed as follows. First, select the designed VI. Second, click on Edit in the toolbar, then copy (Ctrl+C). Third, paste the result in your document (Ctrl+V).

Apump is used to circulate hot water in a home heating system. water enters the well-insulated pump operating at steady state at a rate of 0.42 gal/min. the inlet pressure and temperature are 14.7 lbf/in.2, and 180Β°f, respectively; at the exit the pressure is 60 lbf/in.2 the pump requires 1/15 hp of power input. water can be modeled as an incompressible substance with constant density of 60.58 lb/ft3 and constant specific heat of 1 btu/lb or. neglecting kinetic and potential energy effects, determine the temperature change, in Β°r, as the water flows through the pump.
