An industrial gas turbine can be approximated by the ideal Brayton cycle which uses air as working fluid. The pressure ratio is 8. The gas temperature is 300 K at the compressor inlet and 1300 K at the turbine inlet. You may assume that the pressure at the inlet of the compressor is 101 kPa. Clearly state your assumptions when answering the following questions. (a) Draw the cycle on a p-h diagram, show all processes of heat and work transfer, number all state points according to the diagram shown alongside, and show lines of constant entropy, constant pressure, and constant temperature that go through the state points.
(b) Determine the gas temperature and pressure at the exit of the compressor and the specific work (in kJ/kg) of the compressor.
(c) Determine the gas temperature at the exit of the high-temperature heat exchanger and the specific heat (in kJ/kg) exchanged here.
(d) Determine the gas temperature and pressure at the exit of the turbine and the specific work (in kJ/kg) of the turbine.
(e) Determine the thermal efficiency of the cycle.
