A naturally-aspirated 4-stroke CI engine with the displacement volume of 2.8Liters operating at 3000 rpm. The average indicated power developed is 12.5kW per cubic meter of air inducted per minute. The engine volumetric efficiency is 85% and the atmospheric condition is 1atm and 15°C. A supercharger with an isentropic efficiency of 74% and pressure ratio of 1.6 is added to the intake of the engine. Assume that at the end of induction, the cylinders contain a volume of charge equal to the swept volume at the pressure and temperature of the delivery from the supercharger. Also assume all mechanical efficiencies are 78%. Calculate: a. The volumetric efficiency of the supercharged engine,
b. The increase in brake power by supercharging.
