As a manufacturing automation engineer, you are asked to design a control system to automate a bottle-filler machine for bottled water. Empty bottles are moved into position beneath the filler nozzle one at time by a conveyor moved by a stepping motor. Once a bottle is in position underneath the nozzle, the control system actuates a valve (using an actuator) allowing the water to flow into the bottle. A sensor measures the flow rate and sends it to the control system. The control system determines when to close the valve (using an actuator) to achieve the desired volume of water in the bottle based on the flow rate. The valve is closed via a signal from the control system and the stepping motor advances the next bottle. Using the list of sensors and actuators given in the course lectures, design and describe what are the appropriate sensors and actuator to be used to automate the water-filler machine for bottled water. Include in your description of the control system, the type of input/output signals (such as binary, analog, etc.), and how the system is to utilize the input/output data.

To save energy, the air supply to a 2000 ft office has been shut off overnight and the room temperature has dropped to 40°f. in the morning, the thermostat is reset to 70°f and warm air at 120 f begins to flov in at 200ft'/min. the air is well mixed within the room, and an equal mass flow of air at room temperature (changing with time) is withdrawn through a return duct. the air pressure is nearly 1 atm everywhere. ignoring heat transfer with the surroundings and kinetic and potential energy effects, estimate how long it takes for the room temperature to reach 70°f. plot the room temperature as a function of time.
