Squeaky is a girl who works hard to be the fastest runner in her neighborhood. At the beginning of the story, the author explains how much Squeaky loves her brother. Her brother is mentally challenged, because he has a disability, called a cognitive disability. The author shows that Squeaky is very protective of her brother, even though he may be older than her. Her ideas towards her brother, Raymond, changes throughout the story by her coming to understand that her brother has not won anything in his life. That is the reason why she thinks about giving Raymond some running lessons and he could finally win something for himself. This relationship is similar to those of the other stories, because the character realizes that she should not think about herself, but instead of others.

The speaker in "My father is a Simple Man" has a very strong relationship with his father. While reading the story the speaker lets the readers know that he is happy to have his father. The speaker also lets the reader know that maybe his father did not go to school for too long. But that he was the man that kept his family alive and provided money. The reader can understand that the speaker looks up to his father and sees him as a hero without powers. The relationship in this story is similar to the other stories because the character looks up to his father and sees him as an important person in his life. One difference about the relationship in this story is that the character sees his dad as an important person throughout the whole story, while the other characters realize how important their family really is at the end of the story.

Jerry in the story, " President Cleveland, Where Are You?" is a character who collects cards as a hobby. Every-time Jerry has enough money he goes to the store and buys the cards. At the beginning of the story, Jerry's brother asks him for some money to buy his father a present. Jerry is eager to keep the money and spend it on cards, so he only gives 15 cents and keeps the other 20. After realizing that the cowboy cards Jerry was collecting were not being sold anymore, Jerry feels bad about not being thoughtful enough to give his brother money to buy his dad a present. So he then decided to make the right decision, and gives his brother 5 dollars, so that he can go to a dance with the person he is in love with. The relationship in this story is similar to the one in, " Raymond's Run" because the character makes decisions based on their family only at the end of the story.
