Does money bring happiness in the great gatsby, destroy happiness or have no effect?

In The Great Gatsby, its been years since I read the book so forgive me if I get something wrong. Money had no effect on the happiness of Characters, (except maybe the mechanic’s wife) Gatsby’s illegal booze empire didn’t help him reach that oh so distant green light, and nor did Nick’s lack of money drag him to dismay. But as I said, its been awhile so don’t quote me on any of this. Cheers and good luck.
