In chapter 4 when gatsby drives nick into the city, how does gatsby get out of a speeding ticket?

In Chapter 4, as Nick and Gatsby are going from West Egg into New York City, we see that the car is going quite fast. The car is described as "flying," and they eventually are stopped by a police officer.

However, we also learn that Nick discovers how powerful Gatsby is. When the policeman got close, Gatsby pulled out a white card from his wallet and waved it in front of the policeman, who let him go. This scene highlights the corruption that goes on everywhere in the city.
