A hero's journey usually goes like this, separation, initiation, return. So I guess A modern day hero's journey would be like the army, you separate from your family to be stationed, you are then doing what your told, then you go home after a while. Some differences of course is that in the military your ordered by higher ranked officers, and in myths they're supernatural beings.
