In my opinion, the central idea of the story "My Last Roller Skating Party" is that people are happier when they don't take themselves so seriously.

In the story, the main character falls and hurts themselves when trying to do tricks while roller skating. While the story could have ended with this tragic turn of events, the narrator goes on to talk about how much she appreciated her friends help and company during that time even though they laughed at her after. The narrator was able to accept their laughter because she didn't take herself too seriously. Even though the story was about her injury, it was more about how she handled herself after.
