An archetype is everything that represents human traits and experiences universally, and all that stories have in common. For example, a type of character, a symbol or an idea that is present in most stories, that is, it is universal.

If we speak more specifically, in regard to the heroes of literature, the similar characteristics that they have in common between one story or another is called archetype. All literary heroes share certain characteristics.

An archetype would be like "the role model" of other things, as if it were something original.

But this happens in an abstract way, since there is no original specific model from which the other stories or heroes have been generated.

For example, an archetype in a comedy would be that character that is characterized by being friendly and fun, which is something that all comedies have, and so on with each genre.

Being that it is a model of something universal, almost all stories and genres have an archetype.
