Dell's purpose is to depict the relationship between Guenevere and Lancelot in a realistic way. He uses the dramatic form in chronological order. Chronological order is used almost universally in drama to depict events and ideas in the most succinct way possible. In this excerpt from the play, we have only two characters having a conversation, so we know that the purpose of this portion of the play centers on these two characters. The realism of the situation is depicted through the colloquial speech used in the dialogue between the two characters. The stage directions also give a sense of realism in that they depict movement that would be appropriate for two people who have a complicated relationship with each other
