Theodore Taylor's Cay is a story of survival with a touch of historical fiction. It’s about an American child of eleven years old Phillip Enright, who lives on the Caribbean island of Curaçao during the second world war.

While trying to return safely to the United States, Phillip's ship is ruined and finds himself blinded and stuck on a raft with a black elder named Timothy. The climax is referring to the power of the Nature which leads to a hurricane to the island, when Philips realized that Timothy was still alive, they sit together and the plot  take place under the storm.
