The ancient Greek legend of "Damon and Pythias" was one of the most extraordinary stories about true friendship and keeping one's word. The story of two friends being there for each other shows the value and importance of being faithful to one another.

In the story, the character of Dionysius was shown as a bully and authoritarian, even accusing Pythias of treason and kept him captive to be executed. His accusation which was just a belief that Pyhtias wants to remove him from his throne was not true but him, being the king, had his way. He also refused to let him go home once to settle his family matters. When suggested with Damon replacing Pythias while he did his affairs, Dionysius accepts, for he's happy as long as he had someone to get the blame. His ignorance, his pride and arrogance all seem to suggest that he was a bad, stubborn and cruel leader.

But, looking at the image in the question, it hardly seem like so. He may be rude and strong willed, stubborn but he at least appeared to have some compassion for the men he had made suffer.

(ephesians 4: 32, 1 thessalonians 5: 15, 1 peter 3: 9). atticus, the lawyer, demonstrated during this lee novel, empathy, love of neighbor, understood the situation of this accused man. he went against everything in that society, and stood in favor of that man, for the injustice committed. this shows the empathy, the love taught by christ, in some passages that speak of love and justice in the sermon of the beatitudes (especially verses 6 and 7 of matthew 5).
