In the genre of sci-fi, utopian and dystopian worlds are common because they dare to suggest the impossible in such a hypothetical way that challenges the reader to question their own world around them, whether they consider it to be utopian or dystopian themselves. It's all about making connections from the author to the reader to the outside world.
