Read the research paper excerpt and answer the question.

global warming, otherwise known as a gradual climate change, is a subject that has been in the spotlight more and more recently. the effects of global warming are on the rise, and they do not discriminate against any corner of the world; the effects are universal. the average temperature of our atmosphere continues to rise as the arctic ice continues to melt. coral reefs are dying in droves, and we are seeing an upsurge in extreme weather events, such as tropical storms and wildfires ("global"). it is time that we, as a nation, wake up and start taking care of the planet that has taken care of us for so long. as al gore so succinctly states, "what we take for granted might not be here for our children" ("memorable quotes").

how does the author's choice of underlined words affect the purpose of the paragraph?

Read this excerpt from "a visit from the goon squad."that’s when he began singing the songs he’d been writing for years underground, songs no one had ever heard, or anything like them—“eyes in my head,” “x’s and o’s,” “who’s watching hardest”—ballads of paranoia and disconnection ripped from the chest of a man you knew just by looking had never had a page or a profile or a handle or a handset, who was part of no one’s data, a guy who had lived in the cracks all these years, forgotten and full of rage, in a way that now registered as pure. untouched.how does the author use satire in this excerpt? the author is criticizing media censorship.the author is criticizing the idea of isolationism.the author is mocking society’s overuse of technology.the author is mocking man’s inability to freely express himself.
