In the first stanza, he compares his love to a rose, then to a melody and echoes his love for her. In the second stanza he exaggerates her beauty and compares it to bonnie(French term) means pretty. In the third stanza, he portrays his never-ending love for her and promises to love her even when "seas gang dry" or "rocks melt wi' the sun".
