Iwould like someone to read this anecdote and give me feed back and answer some questions at the end.
a solo
one thing that keeps me going is music. i've been in love with music, both singing and listening to it, since i was little. due to my love of music i joined my high school choir, there were few opportunities to perform but there was always a chance to do things outside of the whole choir. one of those opportunities was district music contest were students all over came to perform in front of a judge and i was one of those students along with my duet partner.
the moment i found out i was in a duet i couldn't but smile and get all giddy but the thing was that i had never sung in a duet let alone a solo. as we got our music i quickly learned that half of the song was only mine to sing and we had very limited time to learn our materials. i spent nights recreating the music on software so i had an idea of what the parts sounded like together and apart, i spend my passing periods and even work time listening to the tracks and memorizing my words, but i was still couldn't shake the feeling that i was going to fail. a week before the competition i had discovered that my partner had a violin solo for this competition but he was removed from the competition because he didn't work hard enough and didn't have his stuff learned. so as the day drew nearer we practiced more and more, at least i know i did.
the day finally came, saturday, april 20th, 2019. i made my way through the slush of our strange weather as i walked up to the school, my toes were freezing and my heart woulndt stop racing. during the bus ride you could feel the energy radiating off of everyone. throughout the day my friends i watched endless performances and cheered each other on- silently of course since it was a singing competition-. at 3: 00 pm, it was near our turn, my heart was pounding my feet couldn't stay still and my palms were sweaty. my partner and i stood in the room waiting for it to be our turn.
“are you ready, do you got this? ” i vividly remember my partner asking as we walked to the front of the room.
my reply, “yes, i hope you are too.” my partner and i stepped to the front of the room and the judges began to prepare, as soon as we were given the “go ahead” everything was a disaster. my partner had forgotten just about everything we had worked on. he got a few notes in and froze in front of the judges. as my part came around i realized i had to come in without his . everything was a blur and my heart kept pounding in my chest as i kept on singing my part just as i had practiced while my partner was frozen and mumbling something similar to me. it was over before i knew it and as i looked at my friends in the group of spectators i saw them giving smiles and jazz hands. in the end, i ended up getting an amazing score from the judges and performing my 1st ever solo.
