biography support the author's purpose of drawing
attention to the plight of refugees. the two pieces
work to create emotions in the reader and empathy
for enrique and other young migrants from central
america. however, the author uses different
approaches in each text. the editorial includes words
with strong connotations to persuade readers. in this
text, the author works to convince readers the united
states should change its refugee policy. on the other
hand, the biography relies on narrative techniques
and figurative language. the author uses setting,
characterization, and personification to educate
readers on the topic.

edwards uses the phrase "o who can express what the state of a soul in such circumstances is! " in order to illustrate that this type of suffering is unimaginable. the word "express" denoted that the state of a suffering soul is required to be described by any person, but it would not happen because no one can imagine how this suffering is felt.  

-show what might happen if the reader disobeys edwards is not correct because this is described trhough the text, not by the phrase used.
