in this story, the narrator's family lives in exile because of these political conditions. and the mother is extremely against trujillo's character. this is reflected by claiming that she is doubly revolted by him, but also that she became obsessed with his actions. finally, she also used him as a character of cautionary tales, meaning she considered him a real-life villain.

when the author mentions the mother feeling isolated and exiled, it is a description of her own state, and not about her feelings toward trujillo, even if he is the reason why she is in that state.
