newspapers are just one way that we retrieve information in this highly technological age of the internet, cable television, and twitter. it’s old school to say the least. and though fewer people are subscribing to hardcopy newspapers than ever before, they are still a reliable source of what’s going on in the world. the journalistic “code of ethics,” which varies from publication to publication, values the principles of truthfulness, accuracy, objectivity, and fairness. in other words, we should be able to trust that the facts have been checked and that the reporting is fair; if it’s not, we can hold the paper accountable.

with so many newspapers to choose from, how do you decide which to read? it’s kind of like being in a candy store. all of the contents are similar—sweet and sugary—but which do you choose? well, a great deal of attention is spent cultivating an excellent reputation over many years of delivering a great product—on one hand cadbury or nestle and on the other the new york times or the washington post. another heaping of effort is devoted to the design and layout of the product; the wrapper for the candy and the front page and beyond for the newspaper. we are indeed a visual culture: anything eye-catching definitely stands out and has a better chance of landing in our hands. and what better way to attract a reader’s attention than a top-notch front page?

98 points for your troubles plus a brainiest.
