Women's literature is in a separate study of literature because of the experience of the American woman. Women we're not always allowed to do what they wish, they were forced to do house work and care for children. Women have been very underestimated throughout history. This is way different from the male point of view which has been: do what you want, when you want. Of course this was more common for rich men, but still. Women's literature, especially really old literature, shows what it's like to be a woman and their experiences.
