Black people were forced to work without pay. Slavery has made the U.S. the wealthiest nation in the world. America did not stand by its promise that it would give 40 acres of land and a mule to the slaves which means 20$ per week as per today. Coates has also authored a book mentioning his struggle before attending Howard University. Thus, there is a strong case of reparation and the blacks are owed around $24 trillion, as the unpaid wages to around 10 million slaves during that time. Whites have inherited the wealth from free black labor and blacks continue to face the effect of slavery.
