romeo and juliet's overreaching passion contributes to their tragic death. romeo and juliet are responsible for their deaths, as they are morally blinded by their passion. juliet takes the potion knowing there is a possibility of death, and romeo seeks an apothecary to buy illegal poison to kill himself and be with juliet in the afterlife. before taking the potion, juliet considers logical reasons why she should not take the potion; the potion not working and her having to marry paris, the potion killing her, waking up before romeo arrives, and suffocating to death. however, juliet is morally blinded by her passion with romeo, that despite all these logical reasons, she still takes the potion. this demonstrates that juliet’s passion outweighs her reason. in addition, romeo is morally blinded by passion as he seeks an apothecary to kill himself immediately after finding out that juliet is dead. "here's to my love! [drinks potion] oh true apothecary! thy drugs are quick. thus with a kiss i die. [dies]" (act 5 scene 3). this demonstrates how just like juliet, romeo's passion outweighs his reason, as he believes that he can outsmart fate and join juliet in the afterlife. therefore, romeo and juliet are responsible for their own deaths as they are too consumed with passion that it morally blinds the young lovers reason.
