although there are many species of the tiny poison dart frog, most of them live deep in the rain forests of central and south america. whether they reside high up in the tree canopy or on the ground, these frogs usually make their habitat near ponds and streams.

the poison dart frog gets its name from the deadly venom that exists in its skin to protect it against most predators. another means of protection is the frog’s color. the bright blue, yellow, red, and other colors warn predators to stay away.
