Something that is being covered up can not be healed refers to how if some issues, for example, racism, are pushed down and ignored, the issue its self will never be seen as one and therefore will never be fixed. But, if something like this is pushed down, eventually, the problem will be so bad that the problem will come right back up to bite you. If you have a leaky pipe you can duck tape it until it no longer leaks, but eventually, the duck tape will rot away and the problem comes back, worse than ever. Like Mr. King says, "Like a boil that can never be cured as long as it is covered up but must be opened with all its pus-flowing ugliness to the natural medicines of air and light", you can't cover up the problem and pray that it won't flare up worse than ever in the future. You have to fix the problem unless you are willing to face the consequences of the future, "We must use time creatively, and forever realize that the time is always ripe to do right."
