The most obvious example from the book is Tom Robinson being wrongly accused of the crime he did not commit. Moreover, Boo Radley is believed to be dangerous, due to the rumor that he was locked up after doing something bad.

Another purpose for writing this novel is probably to show how social inequality contributes to the destruction of innocence. This is primarily seen through the characters of Scout and Jem, who gradually leave their childhood world and become familiar with the cruelty of the adult world.
