Walter Cronkite was considered by many to be the “most trusted man in America” during his heyday at CBS News. Cronkite projected a genuine enthusiasm for all news but was especially enthusiastic about the space program and NASA. As a veteran news anchor during this time, Cronkite had a great deal of influence over which stories were covered in his nightly news casts. His likability to the American public and his enthusiasm for the space program helped build trust among the American people that the space program was a worthy investment.
