Read the title and consider its meaning.

Read the poem and answer the Ws; establish Who is speaking,
What the subject is and What is going on, Where/When lif

Ask yourself: What might the poet have wanted the
reader to think about whilst reading their poem?

Re-read the poem CLOSELY and highlight & annotate HOW the
subject, themes, narrative etc is coming through - ask yourself
WHY particular words, phrases and poetic techniques have
been used.
FEELINGS Establish what your personal response to
the poem is - how does it make you feel?
