Jobs was old and frail when he gave the speech. He knew his stature as an inspiring figure with the young generation. Thus, knowing his story from his own mouth, learning about the issues of his own young life gives the students perspective in life.

The speech shows his struggle as a working class kid, sleeping on the floor of a friend's room, dropping out of college because it was too expensive. Throughout the speech the focus is not on trying to succeed but about not trying to loose one's identity in the foray.
