Breakeven and sonnet 30 compare and contrast

“Just prayed to a God that I don’t believe in” This line is contradictory because if he does not believe in the God then there is no point in praying to them, but this just shows how desperate he is for the lady back. The paradox being discussed in the poem is that he says that his lady is like Ice and himself the fire that melts and ruins it, but then says later that his fire somehow made the ice greater.

“I’m still alive, but I’m barely breathing, Just prayed to a God that I don’t believe in” and “Her best days were some of my worst, She finally met a man that’s gonna put her first”. The slant rhymes are effective because they give off the vibe that the song is slanting down and falling, like the singer is falling into a hole.

“I’m falling to pieces” and “My love is like to ice”

It refers to a lady because “Love” is capitalized and later he refers to “her”.

“But that I burn much more in boiling sweat”

The poem is actually rhymes instead of “almost rhyming” like the slant rhyme. “fire” to “desire” and “cold” to “manifold” etc. I prefer the slant rhyme with the themes of the song.
