Brandy ran toward the door as fast as she could. I am tired of being here, she thought to herself. Oak Lawn Prep was one of the best schools, but Brandy had had enough. “This is the last time I am going to be embarrassed by my classmates,” she said, slamming the door behind her.
As she ran down the stairs and headed for the street corner, Brandy thought she heard someone calling her name. She paused for a moment to look back.
“Brandy, wait up!” Kenton called.
Kenton was the first person who was nice to her when she arrived at Oak Lawn. He had shown her around the school and invited her to sit with him and his friends at lunch. Brandy had thought Kenton was really her friend. Of all of the people she hung out with, his betrayal hurt her the most.
“Hey! Brandy, don’t you hear me calling your name?” Kenton yelled, following her down the block.
The sound of his voice now only made Brandy run faster.
