The Dust Bowl added to the problems of the Great Depression since it displaced many people that relied on farming to provide money for their families. Throughout the book, Harper Lee refers to hardships that the people of Maycomb are experiencing, such as banks failing and farmers losing their crops and land because of what has come to be called the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl was located mostly in the desert part of the United States.
